Bird Nest Repeat

Thoughts I've thunk while sippin' at a cup of tea and reading something provoking, often get dropped here for the benefit of humanity and my own hubris.

Early this spring, a pair of robins decided to build a next on my wisteria trellis on the edge of my patio. Of course everyone has an opinion concerning this, "That is so messy, you should knock it down …"

Parental Unit Robin at the Nest It was part the excitement of a new parent to show off the world of nature to his young baby, and part the guilt that plagues most liberal-minded white males with the destruction of the natural world and the subjugation of indigenous peoples and our own females ... but I just couldn't knock it down.

The eggs were laid, and soon they hatched and we watched a mother bird desperately trying to feed 4 little mouths that were always open. But in just a few short weeks, the birds grew up and were gone … so quickly we didn't even get to watch their maiden flights. We really enjoyed watching this natural cycle take place so close to our human world.

The baby robins ... baby birds just are not cute. But since it was on the edge of my patio, it wasn't too messy, and when the birds were gone, and it was clear that no other birds were going to appropriate it, I removed the nest, and cleaned the trellis and the wisteria, and got everything back to its original non-natural state.

But the day after the nest was removed, I noticed a new pile of twigs being placed up in the same spot. Yup, another pair of robins decided to build a nest. Hmm.... so do I knock this one down?
