| More Sidewalk Messages | ||||||||||||
Thoughts I've thunk while sippin' at a cup of tea and reading something provoking, often get dropped here for the benefit of humanity and my own hubris.

So I decided to improve upon my sidewalk messages by incorporating my friend Po's advice … To write impermanent messages with chalk. So after drawing a small zoo for my two year old daughter, I went to the base of the driveway and wrote the following message for the odd assortment of joggers and school-kids … Oh what fun
It is to write … But how am I going to measure the success of my message? Count the number of double-takes? Notice if anyone actually stops or slows down? Conduct a poll … Did you enjoy the message? Did it get you thinking? Did it get you singing? Now that I think about it, I might just have to run out there in the dark and write another message halfway down the street on the sideway that reads something like: Are Xmas songs stuck in your head?
Maybe I'll keep leaving messages like this every couple of days to the glee and delight of my neighbors … and of course, blaming it on the wee folk in my head. Thought originally posted on Monday, 16 June 2003

I wrote another chalk message … this time down the sidewalk a bit. It read, “Are you flowering?” I don’t know, it just came to me while I was looking at the latest crop of roses in my garden, and thought that we are like a rose bush … going through seasons of dormancy, growth, and blooming. We often speak of someone “flowering” when they are at the peak … as if it were a single event, or a culmination that will last forever. The truth is, we flower repeatedly. You can’t flower forever, or the flowers you produce won’t be as good. Comment posted on Friday, 20 June 2003 |
