| How Have I Missed This? | ||||||||||||
Thoughts I've thunk while sippin' at a cup of tea and reading something provoking, often get dropped here for the benefit of humanity and my own hubris.

Sometimes you come across such a delightful blog that your stunned that you never came across it before. Such is Gaping Void. Nice combo of insightful writing and intriguing art (that’s right, cartoons are art). I especially like his latest idea that he calls the Sex and Cash Theory. The summary of his idea is this: artists struggle with a “day job” to pay the bills and work all night on their creative urges to pay the bills to our soul. But like the stamp I left on his site, I don’t think this is necessarily limited to artists. Geeks often work jobs that pay the bills but are un-fulfilling and then work on a more interesting open source project in the middle of the night. (This may explain why some open source projects are so much better than the equivalent pay-to-use products). Heh … there are times (like right now) where drumming up the enthusiasm to start my IDE to write a database app is incredibly hard… my fingers fly over the keyboard as I’m typing this, but stop cold when they see the IDE become the fore-front window. In fact, my web site gets better as my work projects become less interesting. <persona voice=”William Shatner”>Must… type… SELECT… statement… ARGH!</persona> Thought originally posted on Thursday, 25 March 2004
