I Must be Getting Old

Thoughts I've thunk while sippin' at a cup of tea and reading something provoking, often get dropped here for the benefit of humanity and my own hubris.

After reading Adriaan’s thoughts as well as well as Nicole’s awakening, I’m thinking that maybe geriatrics is in the air. The other day, while stopped at a light, a kid pulled up next to me in his mother’s car (it had to be, for what kid would choose to drive a minivan). The music was blaring, and I thought to myself, “I don’t understand the music these kids listen to…”

I mean, it was awful… simplistic, melodic, boring! It has no depth whatsoever!

I guess that’s pop music for you. It can’t be too interesting and still be called pop. But Adriaan’s right, the youth today haven’t come up with anything new. I grew up liking my grandfather’s jazz, and perhaps the youth of today enjoy dressing like their grandpa’s punk.

At least the youth of Europe, in returning to some of their traditional musical forms are creating some an interesting fusion of sorts.

I really must agree (though in a few years I’ll be the boy in the mini van), most of todays current rap, pop, funk, all just sounds like a poetry contest on crack. Then you can go into the heavy metal and metallic rock (which I think is quite a deal better) is just pop or oldies played on speakers hit with a hammer. everyone has there own tastes (even if they suck), and I have to say that you aren’t getting ‘that’ old, ‘cause I think the same thing… or maybe I just think ‘old’…

“pop” music has to be bad?

have you listened to the magnetic fields? they make good, current pop music. they aren’t really that young, though.

the shins make some quality stuff too.
